Test network (devnet) quickstart

This page covers what differs on the Solana devnet test network; the steps are in the developer hub. Test-network access is by invite: the private staging environment, your key and your seller wallet are set up by us. To sell on mainnet you can start on your own, within small limits: see the mainnet quickstart.

Test network (devnet): test tokens only. For mainnet, use the developer hub.

The live demo also has a real-money lane that is not part of this guide. This guide is about the sandbox. Before you pay in the real-money lane, check that the address bar says demo.payzilla.ai.

The steps are the same as on mainnet

This page lists only what differs on the Solana devnet test network. For the steps themselves, with the commands and what you should see, use the developer hub: 1. check your key, 2. create a service, 3. a small seller server, 4. pay as a buyer and 5. see the payment. To send one test payment to your own service, use Try a payment against your own service: devnet is its default.

TopicOn devnet
Base addressThe private staging environment, set up for invited partners. There is no public base address; we send it by email. Set it in PAYZILLA_BASE_URL when you run the example server.
Your API keyWe send it by email. Send it exactly as given in x-api-key, with no prefix and no quotes (it does not start with afk_live_).
Your seller walletWe register it to your workspace; test payments arrive there. It needs a token account for the test token before the first payment, which is created when it first receives the token: if payments are refused, send it a small amount of the test token from another wallet first.
The tokenStaging uses its own test token, not Circle’s devnet USDC. A wallet funded from Circle’s faucet cannot pay here, and a careful buyer refuses the wrong token. The challenge names the token and the seller wallet.
Getting test tokensOpen the live demo, choose the mode where you pay with your own wallet, connect a Solana wallet app (set to devnet) and use its faucet: it sends 5 test tokens per request. The faucet needs a connected wallet app; a pasted address does not work. On one test run the first faucet request showed no answer and the second worked.
AmountsA price of "2000" is 0.002 test USDC. The platform minimum is 0.001. The release threshold defaults to 5 test USDC per seller, with a platform ceiling of 50 test USDC.
Network feeNo SOL needed on the buyer’s side: Payzilla’s fee payer pays it on staging.
ExplorerOpen the transaction on Solscan with ?cluster=devnet, and check that the cluster says devnet.
DashboardA dashboard exists on private staging, so far used by our own team. When it is ready for invited partners we send you a sign-in. Until then the ledger (GET /v1/payments) shows the same data.
The example serverThe example server on the hub was run against private staging with a test buyer and paid one test payment (11 October 2026). It has not been run on a real network, so run it against staging with us before you rely on it.
Unpaid requestsEvery request for a payment challenge creates an intent, so a plain curl or a dry run leaves a row in Payments with the status Created. They are not failures.

Common mistakes on devnet

What happensWhy, and what to do
401 from every callSend the key exactly as given in x-api-key, with no prefix and no quotes.
The buyer says the network or the token is wrongEverything here is Solana devnet, and the token is staging’s own test token, not Circle’s devnet USDC. Other networks and tokens are refused.
Nothing answersStaging is kept on and scaled down only when it is idle. Write to us.

The other mistakes (prices as strings of atomic units, a 409 when creating an intent, pending settlement, serving before settling) are the same as on mainnet: see common mistakes in the hub.

What to expect

  • Devnet is a test network. It can be reset, and shapes and names may change.
  • Nothing is charged during the preview. Planned pricing is on the Pricing page and will change as we learn.
  • Today payments go from the buyer’s wallet to your seller wallet.
  • Payzilla is software. No licence and no certification.

Want to try it? Write to us, or read the beta page first.
